Born in 1983 in the south-eastern province of Gaziantep in Turkey, Özay worked as an editor for various news agencies before moving into the film industry in 2003. Starting off as a line producer, he later began writing and directing. He made his first film, a short-titled Passenger (Yolcu), in 2017. Passenger screened and won awards at numerous national and international festivals.

Synopsis
Aziz (12) causes the death of his 10-year-old brother, Melik, in an act that blurs the line between ‘accident’ and ‘intention’. After the event, Aziz’s already problematic relationship with his steely father, İmran (43), deteriorates further. For the family to get over this deeply traumatic event and become a functioning family again, its members need to undergo a process of soul-searching.
